Flexural behaviour of cold-formed steel oval hollow section beams

چکیده
This paper presents a detailed investigation into the flexural strength and behaviour of cold-formed steel oval hollow section beams. A series four-point bending tests were conducted as part experimental programme. Following this, total 12 tested beams simulated by non-linear finite element analysis. Upon validation newly developed numerical model, 36 results generated through parametric study to assess structural response over wider range cross-section dimensions. The data used evaluate applicability five existing design methods for cold formed members, including Eurocode 3, North American Specification, Australian/New Zealand Standards, direct method continuous method. In general, indicate that all three standards produce unconservative predictions, while yield relatively accurate consistent predictions.

Lateral-torsional buckling resistance of cold-formed high strength steel rectangular hollow beams
Hollow sections have been widely used for steel structures. Applications of High Strength Steel (HSS) on cold-formed hollow sections lead to thinner and lighter structures. This paper presents numerical investigations on the lateral-torsional buckling resistance of the cold-formed high strength steel rectangular hollow beam. Results from finite element analysis using Abaqus software are compare...

C and Z sections are two of the most common cold-formed steel shapes in use today. Accurate prediction of the bending performance of these sections is important for reliable and efficient cold-formed steel structures. Recent analytical work has highlighted discontinuities and inconsistencies in the American Iron and Steel Institute ~AISI! and Canadian Standards Association ~S136! design provisi...
متن کاملDistortional Buckling Tests on Cold-Formed Steel Beams
Failure in cold-formed steel beams is generally initiated by one of three instabilities: local, distortional, or lateral-torsional buckling. For cold-formed steel joists, purlins, or girts, when the compression flange is not restrained by attachment to sheathing or paneling, distortional buckling may be the predominant failure mode. Experimental results on cold-formed steel beams with unrestrai...

Concrete is the material which is rapidly used in various conditions to sustain the compression loads and the corresponding bending and shear stress due to the applied compressive loads. The major drawback in concrete is that it is poor in tension though it is very efficient in compression. Hence to overcome this major drawback the concrete must be reinforced such that to make a homogeneous sub...

Powder-actuated (also referred to as low velocity or powder-driven) fasteners are commonly used to attach cold-formed steel framing members, usually a track, to a concrete or structural steel support. Although commonly used, their behavior is less well understood than other fasteners such as screws, bolts and welds. The AISI Cold-Formed Steel Design Manual does not explicitly address powder act...
